Copenhagen and the Tivoli

July 4th, 2008

Having just spent the weekend in Copenhagen I can thoroughly recommend it for a city break. The Tivoli is a Copenhagen institution, a large park area in the city centre with over 40 bars and restaurants, stages for entertainment, gardens and amusement park. It seems only on the continent can they do things like this to a really high standard without it getting tacky or ‘end of pier’ like.

The city itself retains its charm with lots of very old buildings and canals, the most famous of which, the Nyhaven, is a very quaint canal lined with restaurants painted different colours overlooking the moored boats.

Below are a couple of photographs of the Tivoli at dusk.

Spring and lots of rape fields…

May 23rd, 2008

Look at the difference a month makes, my last blog above on 22nd April showed the countryside covered in snow! Now we have all the fields and hedgerows in full bloom. Its not just rape, rape and more rape although yellow does seem to be the spring colour. At least it makes the countryside look colourful as well as really lush at this time of year. It is amazing the way nature can produce such vivid colours, something thats’ difficult to replicate in photography. Its always a great challenge to try and reproduce colours acurately in both clients products and nature, and being one of the first photographers to get involved in digital manipulation and colour management is a real benefit to my customers.

Below forget-me-nots as well as the rape.

Panorama Tower at Cubs Moor overlooking Malvern Hills

Sheep-in-snow-012.jpg

You know I mentioned about the domed palladian folly you can see from the M5, particularly travelling south if you look across to your right about half way between the Worcester South and M50 junctions - well this is it, pictured when we had the snow fall on the first weekend in April. It belongs to the Croome Landscape Park Estate and was designed by James Wyatt in 1801.

At the time I got followed by this posse of sheep, I guess they thought I was the farmer carrying a bag full of food - not camera equipment! However, they did make good models putting some scale and interest into the shots.

Spring…..

Lambs-02.jpg

You know when spring is really here when the lambs are running and jumping without a care in the world. Plus of course the clocks change so we finally get some light in the evenings.
As you can see from the images above I have been trying to get a shot of the lambs jumping - easier said than done. Especially to get one that ticks all the boxes and makes for a nice shot - I will keep trying. As with many disciplines in photography its all about passion and patience.

Photographers in Birmingham West Midlands

March 7th, 2008

Andrew Priest Photography - supplying a high quality professional photographic service, based in Worcestershire, to the West Midlands and beyond.

Hello
tree.jpg

Didn’t expect the weather to be so good today, so couldn’t resist and on the way into the office this morning snapped this old withered tree. I find some trees really fascinating, the way they have grown and contorted over the years.

Have been doing fairly local commissions this week, photography in Birmingham and Solihull of people. Though I did get an early morning shot of a building in north Birmingham, the only time of day it gets sun on the front. I do have a couple of architectural commissions down south, one on the Devon coast and one in Somerset - the furthest one again requiring an early morning shot.

If any of you are ever travelling up the M5 a few miles north of Strensham services there is a domed palladian folly, I would guess Victorian, that can be seen from the motorway. My next personal mission is to get a really nice shot of this with the Malvern Hills in the background. Keep you posted.

Hi

Well we have been blessed with some really great days of late. Did you see the sky late afternoon just after sunset on Monday 18th - WOW, I can’t remember ever seeing it so red.

Took the above pic on Saturday afternoon from a great spot on the road between Stroud and Dursley in Gloucestershire. Its not me in the photo but another snapper taking advantage of the view!

All of last week I was on a major commission for an annual report travelling all over over the West Midlands, Shropshire, Gloucestershire, Worcestershire and Oxfordshire. The timing was perfect with the weather as I was able to get people shots, as briefed, with buildings in the background, although you do have to be careful not to get your subjects squinting in the bright sunshine. Nevertheless the light was ideal for most of the outdoor photography and at least made travelling around easier and more pleasurable.

Architectural photographers in the West Midlands

February 4th, 2008

At last a few nice days at the end of January to get some architectural images in the bag. I spent most of last week making the best use of the weather mainly around the Birmingham, West Midlands area but also getting up to Stoke on Trent for an architectural shoot. The strong winter sunlight really brings out detail in brickwork and external cladding and makes for some great deep blue skies.
The weekend of 26th, 27th Jan was really sunny and fairly mild, so great for a nice walk in the country - nothing like getting close to nature! Its hard to believe whilst we were having such a nice day on Friday 1st in the West Midlands the north was suffering the winter blues with heavy snow fall! Mind you when I went to the chip shop on Friday evening it did start to snow in Worcester, but that’s another story…
